Hank Williams
Honky Tonk Blues
Mercury Chronicles

Published July 24, 2005

Hank Williams may or may not have invented modern country music, but to this day, though he’s been gone more than half a century, no individual personifies the genre as wholly as he did. Through interviews with those who knew and worked with him (or were at least influenced by him), and captivating vintage footage and rare audio, this documentary, which aired originally on PBS, follows the all-too-short life and career of this rootsiest of American roots artists. Hank Williams Jr., the legend’s son, makes a good case for his father as a white bluesman, and he may just be right.
