Dharma Moon
At Ease
Sounds True

By Ernest Barteldes

Published March 30, 2007

Eastern and Western sounds are blended with gratifying results on this collection of relaxing chill-out songs. One of the album's best tracks is the electronica/New Age-inspired “Shambala Moon,” on which multi-instrumentalist David Nichtern shows amazing creative chops on the slide guitar. “Meditation” and “Home Again” are hard to tell apart, since the mood on both songs is pretty much the same. They are both enjoyable enough, though, and successfully give the listener the relaxed, Zen-like feeling they’re so obviously trying to bring out. “Subah” features Indian chanting from Falguni Shah, backed by subtle ethnic and electronic instrumentation. On “Sangye,” the quieter chants are gently surrounded by a dreamy arrangement that relies heavily on effects-laden keyboards and vocals. Closing the disc with Michael Hewett’s hopeful “You Won’t Let Anybody Down” was a wise choice, too. This is surely an enjoyable album, reccomended to soothe the stress that follows a busy, chaotic day.
