Acclaimed for her captivating performances in avant-garde and classical music circles throughout Europe, but a rare guest in America, Iva Bittová will become a US resident in June 2007. She will kick off her residency with two solo performances in downtown New York City at the Bang On A Can Marathon Festival and at the Knitting Factory. (See our World Music Concerts section for more information.)
Iva Bittová’s most recent recordings are Mater by Slovakian composer Vladimír Godár, just released on ECM Records*, and her 2005 collaboration with New York’s Bang On A Can All-Stars, Elida (Cantaloupe Music). Also noteworthy is her recording of Leos Janácek’s Moravian Folk Poetry in Songs with the Czech Skampa Quartet, featuring arrangements for voice and string quartet by Godár (Supraphon Records, 2004).
While Bittová’s move to the US from her longtime home near Brno in the Czech Republic will not be permanent, she plans to live in the countryside in upstate New York “for a year or two” and to perform across North America, both solo as well as in collaboration with other, US based artists. She will continue performing with the Bang On A Can All-Stars, including a residency at Mass MoCA in July 2007 and various concerts in early 2008. A concert tour with the Skampa Quartet performing Janácek’s folk songs is scheduled for April 2008.
