Tropical singer Juan Luis Guerra is the lead nominee for the eighth annual Latin Grammy Awards. Guerra is in the running for album of the year and merengue album of the year for his latest release La Llave de mi Corazon. The hit song of the same name was nominated in three categories, including record and song of the year. Guerra will also be honored as the person of the year by the Latin Recording Academy.
Puerto Rican stars Ricky Martin and Calle 13 dominate the rest of the nominees. After his surge in global stardom during the late 1990s, Martin has returned this year with a highly successful MTV Unplugged album. He earned four nominations, with nods for male pop vocal and long-form music video.
Urban duo Calle 13, winner of last year's best new artist award, also snagged four nominations. They are up for album of the year and best urban music album for the controversial Residente o Visitante.
The Latin Grammy Awards will take place November 8 in Las Vegas and will air live on the Univision network. Winners will be determined by votes from members of the Latin Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences.
