Martin Sheen Highlights Music Favorites On National Geographic World Music
Published September 27, 2006

Emmy award-winning actor Martin Sheen makes his DJ debut Sept. 27 on National Geographic's groundbreaking World Music Web site, worldmusic.nationalgeographic.com. The critically acclaimed actor, well known for his television role as President Bartlett on "The West Wing," has compiled an eclectic mix of music from Cuba, Algeria, Ireland, Peru, Brazil and other parts of the world exclusively for National Geographic.

"It wasn't until I reviewed the extensive selection of artists and songs offered on the site that I truly appreciated the amazing stories that these musicians tell," said Sheen. "Through National Geographic World Music, I discovered incredible artists and their music, all while learning about their various cultures and countries."

Sheen previously worked with National Geographic on its Explorer program and specials, including narrating Inside The Vatican.

National Geographic World Music, launched in July 2006 to support National Geographic's core mission of inspiring people to care about the planet, provides media-rich features, breaking music news and celebrity DJ playlists. It offers discovery of music by artist, region or genre while serving as an important distribution outlet for artists and labels. National Geographic's World Music content is programmed by recognized music experts under the supervision of Tom Pryor, former editor of Global Rhythm magazine. Together with Calabash Music, LinkTV, Afropop Worldwide and Global Rhythm, National Geographic's site allows listeners to preview and purchase thousands of tracks. Previous celebrity guest DJs include Chris Blackwell, Rez Abbasi and Richard Blair of Sidestepper.
