British folk-rock legend Richard Thompson enjoyed one of the best and busiest weeks of his career following the release of Front Parlour Ballads (Cooking Vinyl USA) on August 9. The album debuted in the Billboard top 200 and has earned superlative reviews.
Thompson had equal success in the U.K., where Front Parlour Ballads was the third highest new entry on the national album charts at #54, and the highest new entry in the independent album charts at #3.
In the same week, Werner Herzog's new film Grizzly Man, which Thompson scored, opened to critical acclaim and the highest per-screen gross of any new movie in limited release during the weekend of its release. The film's strong opening has prompted Cooking Vinyl USA to speed the release of Thompson's soundtrack for late August.
