Central Park SummerStage, the flagship performing arts festival of New York City’s City Parks Foundation, will feature more than 100 artists performing through 30 free events and six benefit concerts that support the free festival.
Throughout the season, SummerStage will showcase some of the world’s most accomplished and inventive musicians, dancers, filmmakers, comedians, and writers. In addition, City Parks Foundation is pleased to announce its largest ever schedule of performing arts events in parks across the city. This is the foundation’s 18th season.
The Central Park SummerStage concerts are the flagship events and this year’s highlights include singer Cassandra Wilson, Moroccan star Hassan Hakmoun, guitar duo Rodrigo & Gabriela, Brazil’s Afro Reggae and an afternoon of music hosted by The Fugees’ Wyclef Jean. There will also be a reunion of the Wild Style crew, the rappers and graffiti artists featured in the 1982 film Wild Style .
While nearly all of the events are free to the public, the few that cost money function as fundraisers for SummerStage. This year's fundraising concerts include Bob Weir and Ratdog as well as Rufus Wainwright.
In addition to the SummerStage events, City Parks Foundation will offer over 1,100 performing arts events in parks citywide, making the organization one of the largest presenters of the performing arts in New York City.
