Two Katrina Benefit Concerts to Take Place Simultaneously in NYC
Published September 15, 2005

Radio City Music Hall will also host its own “From The Big Apple to the Big Easy,” New York City’s Concert for the Gulf Coast, coinciding with the All-Star concert being held at Madison Square Garden on September 20th. This is the first time that the two legendary venues – the World’s Most Famous Arena and the Showplace of the Nation – have joined together to hold simultaneous benefit concerts.

Radio City Music Hall event

Appearing on the Great Stage at Radio City Music Hall as part of “From the Big Apple to the Big Easy” will be Dave Matthews; Tom Waits; Trey Anastasio; John Mayer Trio; Joss Stone; The Meters; Galactic with the Mardi Gras Indians; Ray Lamontagne.  Additional artists to be announced soon.

Madison Square Garden event

Additionally, Madison Square Garden announced several new performers that will join its All-Star line-up at the Garden, including Elvis Costello; Diana Krall; Simon & Garfunkel; Clarence “Frogman” Henry; Dave Bartholomew; Irma Thomas; Kermit Ruffins and Troy “Tromboneshorty” Andrews. They will perform with previously announced performers: Bette Midler; Elton John; Jimmy Buffett; John Fogerty; Lenny Kravitz; Ry Cooder; Steve Nicks; Fats Domino; the Neville Brothers; Buckwheat Zydeco; the Meters; Allen Toussaint; the Dirty Dozen Brass Band and The Rebirth Brass Band. Rod Stewart can no longer participate due to injury.

All Proceeds Benefit Relief and Rebuilding Efforts

Madison Square Garden is underwriting 100% of all concert production costs related to “From The Big Apple to the Big Easy” New York City’s Concert for the Gulf Coast, and has pledged an additional $1 million dollar donation to begin the event’s fundraising efforts. 100% of all money raised from ticket sales will go directly to organizations involved in the region’s relief and rebuilding efforts, including the Bush Clinton Katrina Fund; Habitat for Humanity; MusiCares Hurricane Relief Fund and the Children’s Health Fund.

The Bush Clinton Katrina Fund serves as an umbrella organization for the three funds established by the Governors of Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi and will focus on collecting donations to assist in the long-term recovery plan for these states.  Habitat for Humanity has launched Operation Home Delivery - a bold initiative focused on rebuilding houses in these devastated communities.  MusiCares has established its Hurricane Relief Fund for people in the music industry who have been affected by this disaster and who are in need of assistance.  The Children’s Health Fund is expanding its fleet of mobile medical vans and dispatching them to the Gulf Coast to provide on-the-spot medical care for children in need of quality healthcare.

All tickets will be available through Ticketmaster (212-307-7171). Special packages are also available by calling (212) 465-6133.
